Components

Taken from the scripture page, not from a library

A printed Bible already solves the problem this website has: how to set a long argument so a reader can find their place in it. It does it with a chapter numeral in the margin, verse numbers down the column, a measured width and hairline apparatus. So sections are chapters, lists are verses, and rules do the work that borders would do badly.

Chapter

The section opener. A rule across the full width, the numeral in the gutter, the label and heading in the column.

Why it exists

Every other Bible app assumes something

An optional lede sits under the heading and is held to the measure.

Verses

What a list is here. Numbered from the margin, separated by hairlines.

  1. A verse with a heading

The number sits in the margin, the text sits in the column, and a hairline separates it from the next one. This is what a list is on this site.
  2. And another

There are no bullets, no ticks, no crosses and no icons, because a printed Bible does not need them and neither does this.

Marginal

A statement set apart by a rule, a margin label and type. This is the replacement for the tinted panel with a coloured left bar, which is banned in this project.

Why it matters

A made up verse, said warmly and confidently to someone at their lowest, is a specific kind of harm that an apology afterwards does not undo.

Rule

A tinted panel with a coloured bar down its left edge is the most recognisable tell of generated interface work, and it may not appear anywhere in this project. check-literals.mjs fails the build on it, because a rule with no check is only a preference.

Figures

Divided by rules rather than boxed into cards. Gold on a band, ink on the page.

Band

The dark ink ground, with gold. Dark in both themes on purpose, because a band that inverted with the theme would put light text on a light ground.

The promise we will not break

Giving buys you nothing

  1. Gold may appear on a band, and nowhere else.
  2. On the white page it has neither the contrast nor the meaning.
So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.
2 Corinthians 9:7 · NKJV

Button

Six variants, three sizes. The only component here that came from shadcn, and it is bound entirely to the token layer.

Every height comes from size.touchTarget, so the smallest button still clears the minimum touch target on a phone.

The device

A phone rendering the real reader interface, built from the product's own tokens, so a mockup cannot show a screen the app could not produce.

What is deliberately absent

  1. Icons inside cards. The icon above a heading carries no information and is the clearest signal that a layout was assembled rather than designed.
  2. Tinted callout panels with a coloured left bar. Banned, and checked.
  3. Ticks, crosses and chevrons as list bullets. Verse numbers do that job.
  4. Rounded corners on photographs. A photograph in an editorial layout sits in its frame.
  5. Decorative gradients, at any strength. DES-01 section 4 rules them out of the whole system.
