Ardent Word is a project founded, developed and funded by Mawuli Dzaka under the Ardent Africa Foundation. It was built for readers on the networks and the phones that most Bible apps quietly assume nobody has, and it was built there rather than adapted from somewhere else.
Why
Two questions, and everything follows from them
The first
What happens when the network is gone?
A reader in a week when the cable is cut should lose the ability to ask a question. They should not lose the ability to read, to write, to pray, or to find help.
The second
How do you make certain it never puts words into the text?
The answer here is that it structurally cannot. Emmaus is only ever allowed to point at a verse, and the app reads the verse itself. That is not caution. It is the design.
Everything else in the product is downstream of those two answers, including the things that look like restraint: no advertisements to sell, no engagement metric to chase, no paid tier to design around.

Four that are not negotiable
Offline is the default, not the fallback
The question every feature had to answer was what happens when the network is gone. If the honest answer was that the feature stops, it was either redesigned or it was not built.Scripture is never paraphrased
Not in the app, not in a notification, not in a shared image, and not on this website. It is displayed exactly as the translators set it, or it is not displayed.
Nothing sits behind a payment
No advertisements, no in-app purchases, no subscription, no paid tier. Giving is the only income and it unlocks nothing, because there is nothing locked.Prayer is not data
Journals, requests and conversations are treated as sensitive religious information: encrypted, excluded from analytics, never used for training, and reachable by an administrator only through a logged path.

It is a foundation, not a company
For every person, everywhere
The name
All of it is in one verse
And they said to one another, “Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?”
Ardent is the burning. The Word is the Scriptures opened. Emmaus is the road they were walking when it happened.
The emblem is drawn from the same sentence: a flame in a single open stroke, broken at the base, with the road running straight through the break. Its geometry is informed by adinkra construction, which is the visual language of the place this was made. It is an acknowledged influence and not a borrowed symbol.
